CLP’s first entry into the China market dates back to 1979, when the Group provided electricity to Guangdong to meet the developing needs of the local economy. Our investment in the Mainland’s power sector started six years later, in 1985. Today, we are one of the largest external independent power producers in the country, with a focus on producing clean and low-carbon energy such as efficient coal, nuclear and renewables.
Our portfolio in the Mainland includes coal and nuclear power as well as renewable sources such as hydro, solar and wind. As of 31 December 2018, our investment in equity totalled 8,954MW, with operations in 15 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, including eastern China (Jiangsu and Shanghai), southern China (Guangdong, Guangxi), southwestern China (Guizhou, Yunnan and Sichuan), northern China (Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin and Inner Mongolia), northeastern China (Jilin and Liaoning), and northwestern China (Gansu and Shaanxi).?
We have taken a a number of measures to support the Mainland government’s efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon intensity. We will continue to responsibly manage the environmental impact of our projects and operations, and maintain full compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Volunteering efforts by CLP staff remains one of our key platforms to engage with local communities, mainly through youth education and environmental awareness activities.
At CLP we believe in sharing our expertise to help develop sound and balanced frameworks for the evolving electric power industry in the Mainland. We are committed to establishing a long-term and sustainable presence in the Mainland for the future.
